The R.A.D. Haole Tour was a dream skate-cation with tropical weather and perfect roads paved with volcanic rock. The tour formed as the crew had a ten day 'layover' in Hawaii on their way to New Zealand for the Mt. Ruapehu Gravity Festival. Team riders, Jimmy Riha, James Kelly, Tony Graves, KJ Nakanelua, Max Ballesteros, Kaimana Pinto, Ben Dubreuil and Louis Pilloni loaded up a truck and toured around the islands.
After landing in Oahu it was straight to the 7th Annual Festival of Sugar & Love for a slide jam, BBQ, and camping before heading to the North Shore for a downhill race the following day. R.A.D. Crew riders, Max Ballesteros, James Kelly, and Kaimana Pinto took 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in the race, and received their awards during a sunset session at the North Shore Skate Park. We then went for more runs down the mountain the next day and then it was off to Maui.
Once landing on Maui we set up camp at a friend's house equipped with a built-to-skate pool in the backyard. Unfortunately the house is abandoned, the power is out, no hot water, no trash service, the yard was overgrown but... it is a gem in the rough. The next few days were spent filming on the Volcano, and words cannot explain how beautiful both of these roads are! 20 miles of cruising at 40-50mph with sweeping hairpins and a second road with 8 miles of steep technical sections to give you the best of both worlds.
After a few day of shredding, the Crew hopped on planes to fly back home; or to New Zealand. Despite it raining half the time, the trip was a great success with no major injuries, lots of great photos and video, shops, and skating with the locals.
